My New Job
I know, right? After 11 years I am leaving the SBDC to take another job. I’m not going far though. My new job is still with Columbus State Community College as the Director of the Center for Workforce Development.
My new position will focus on helping people prepare and upgrade their work skills to help them better compete in the job market. The Center works with displaced and incumbent workers as well as K-12 school systems. While I look forward to the new challenge it was a difficult to decision to leave the SBDC after so many years. I have put a great deal of myself into the growth and development of the program. My decision was made a little easier due to the strength of the SBDC team. The team is passionate and very skilled in helping people build and grow businesses. I also have the utmost confidence in my successor, Ariana Ulloa- Olavarrieta. I have worked with Ariana for a number of years and I have no doubt that she can lead the SBDC program and build on the success we have had over the past 11 years.
Having said all of that I can’t stop supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem here in central Ohio. Helping people achieve their dreams of small business ownership is truly my passion. I expect to continue my work in this space through Ideas To Deals. I will continue to create content around various issues of small business growth. I plan to develop new online training programs for small business owners to use that will help them avoid mistakes that can trip up their business growth. I also expect to take on some individual advising engagements with start-up businesses to help them achieve business success.
Last but not least there was no way I could walk away from the event I founded in 2005. I will continue in my role as the Director of the Ohio Growth Summit. Of everything I have done in my career I am the most proud of the this event. I know you will love what we are planning for this June’s tenth anniversary. I guarantee that this will be the best Ohio Growth Summit yet. You can quote me on that!
While things will certainly be different it is time for me to make this move. I thank everyone for all of their support over the past 11 years and I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in the future.
